Lemon Ginger Water Detox Recipe




Every once in awhile it's good to detox, whether it be a short stint of a detox, a full blown diet changing detox, or a small detoxing aide- it's a good idea. Some people are afraid of the word "detox", I'll admit it does sound pretty intimidating, but all it really means is the removal of toxins from your body. Drinking lots of water can do this alone, however, there are a few foods that can assist with this process by either speeding it up and/or making the effect stronger in a shorter amount of time.

Ginger is a powerful detoxifier that helps to kick start your metabolism. Lemons are a natural detoxifier and have a diuretic effect which helps toxins to be released from the body. Ginger, Lemon, and Water combined make for an awesome and simple detoxing beverage.  This is something that can be consumed daily and is great after a long weekend of alcoholic consumption.  For a full detox experience, try drinking 8 glasses in a single day while making your meals very light (i.e. salads, veggies, fruits, nuts, green smoothies and steering clear of meat) or simply enjoy as an early morning/late night drink.

Lemon Ginger Detox Drink


Ingredients
  • 1 12-ounce glass water, at room temperature
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 1/2 inch knob of ginger root
Directions


Add the lemon juice to the glass of water. Finely grate the ginger by using a zester, add to the glass of water. This drink is a perfect way to start and/or end your day!
